Final Post The Kite Runnerhein The Kite Runner -- personification, simile and metaphor. Personification gives a human characteristic or a unreal quality in human form to a non-human item.  P. 30 - Chapter 4, "Sitting cross-legged, sunlight and shadows of pomegranate leaves dancing on his face." This is a example of how personification gives a human characteristic to a non-human object. A simile is how two words that have different meanings are compared to each other by using the words like or as -- it is used in a sentence or a paragraph. A metaphor a word or expression  that stands for one thing but is adapted straight to a precisely particular item or thing but does not compare such things.  The verb to be is usually used to create a metaphor which compares two things directly. The sentence in chapter 17, p. 234, "I felt like a man sliding down a steep cliff, clutching at shrubs and tangles of brambles and coming up empty-handed.  In this sentence Amir's feelings are being compared to a man who is falling down a step cliff and who is trying to stop himself by grabbing a shrub but it slips throw his gripe. Figurative language is a figure of speech and it enhances the story. It is how an author develops a characters personality, without a literary device the story line would fail and be boring.

There is a few people at my work who have read this book and they highly recommend The Kite Runner. I would recommend this book to Kajel  (KC). Kc is avid reader who usually reads true crime stories. Why I would recommend this book to KC is because of the different emotions that this book brought out in me. I was very angry when Hassan got raped and Amir did nothing to help his friend Hassan.  P.82, "I had one last chance to make decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, and stand up for Hassan--the way he'd stood up for me all those times in the past-- and accept whatever would happen to me". It  was sad when Amir's father (Baba) passed away from cancer and later in the story Baba's friend and business partner writes a letter to Amir. In the later Amir is ask to go back to Afghanistan to say good bye to his father's close friend. Baba's close friend and business partner is also dying of cancer. In the letter the friend tells Amir there is away to be good again.  The Kite Runner, in my opinion has is a true crime story with culture and tradition. KC would love the suspense and foreshadowing that this book has to offer. I love reading the parts in the book were it showed the close relationship of Amir and Hassan. They would climb a hill and sit in the shade of  a pomegranate tree on a hot summer day. P.30, "There was a pomegranate tree near the entrance to the cemetery. One summer day, I used one of Ali's kitchen knifes to carve our names on it: "Amir and Hassan, the sultans  of  Kabul."
